Music & Sports

Music Programme

The Whole School Choir offers a shared evening of music-making and is core to developing a community spirit.

Students have the chance to learn and practice both solo and part singing across a range of genres and styles in Chinese and English. The Whole School Choir performs at events both on and off campus, providing a wonderful mechanism for our Hangzhou CIS students to connect with the wider Hangzhou community.

Students without prior experience are encouraged to learn new skills and find enjoyment in this most basic and portable of art forms that can be readily pursued wherever they may find themselves in their future lives.

Hangzhou CIS has an established, well-resourced and flexible peripatetic programme open to all and able to accommodate private lessons for most instruments. On arrival, students will meet with the Co-Curricular Instrumental Music Liaison Teacher to arrange lessons and, when possible, ensemble involvement.

Each year, depending on the strengths and needs of students, different small ensembles are created and supported, as appropriate by both Hangzhou CIS staff and peripatetic teachers. Students will have the opportunity to perform both on and off campus.

Sports Programme

Hangzhou CIS offers Core, Individual and Elective Sports programme. All students are required to participate in a minimum of one Core Sport. All students are required to participate in a minimum of the Individual sport on Wednesday and Saturday afternoons.

The Core Sports programme has been developed so that students can maintain existing interests and explore new ones. In some years, based on ability and commitment, students have been selected to represent the school in certain sports. If demand warrants, the school will field a team and support the team by providing coaching and arranging friendly fixtures with other nearby teams. The following are sports that have been offered in previous years. Depending on the season, they may be played either outdoors or indoors.
