CIS-Developed Curriculum

Science courses 

An example of this is the Year 11 Science course which operates on a rotational basis in the first semester. Students rotate through three, six week units, with three different teachers, in Biology, Chemistry and Physics. In the second semester, students choose one Science Elective, based on their specific interest, from three offered: Space Science, Marine Science, and Food Science.

English courses

Similarly, in English, students choose an elective in the second semester based on their interest in a range of texts and themes being offered.

Individuals and Societies courses

In Year 11, Individuals and Societies integrates all four subjects offered at DP (Economics, History, Geography, and Psychology. It exposes students to the four subjects in the first semester to enable them to make a better, more well-informed decision about DP subjects. In addition, it demonstrates that the subjects of Individuals and Societies are interrelated and should not be studied in isolation. Finally, bringing in more experiential and service-learning opportunities allows for more voice and choice from students.

Research Skills course

In lieu of the IB MYP Personal Project, students take a Research Skills course that ensures the effective use of their “Approaches to Learning” (ATL) skills, and also provides a solid foundation for both the IB DP’s Extended Essay (EE), and post-secondary education research methods.

In moving forward to the next stage of the Year 11 Programme, we will be connecting Vision ‘33 within each subject area through the following programmes:

• Discipline Connections (Project Based Learning and Experiential Learning);
• Beyond Disciplines (Internship Opportunities);
• Personalised Learning (Independent Student-Initiated Projects).
