CIS Hangzhou
In August 2013, CIS launched a one-year academic and residential programme of the highest calibre in Hangzhou, China. This is the first programme of its kind.
Year 10 students spend a year at CIS Hangzhou immersed in Chinese culture and language, while continuing their education in English.
CIS Hangzhou is located on the campus of our partner school, Greentown Yuhua School (GYS), a leading private school in Zhejiang Province. Sharing a campus with Chinese peers provides CIS Hangzhou students with a range of opportunities for exchange and friendship.
The programme has been crafted to be an intensive year-long journey of discovery and is built on the four pillars of Community, Character, Challenge and China.
Opportunities in CIS Hangzhou
TEACHERS:
As a full boarding institution, teachers take on a range of responsibilities and commitments beyond those of a day school, and also live during term-time in accommodation provided by the school.
COACH MENTORS:
Coach Mentors live alongside students in accommodation provided by the school and take a leadership role in activities beyond the classroom from sports, music and drama to community service and field trips. Coach Mentors also act as teaching assistants in subject areas as negotiated with the Director.
COUNSELLORS:
Through leadership, advocacy and collaboration, Hangzhou counsellors promote student success, provide preventive services and respond to identified student needs by implementing a comprehensive school counselling programme that addresses academic and personal/social development for all students.
HEAD OF HOUSE:
The Head of House (HOH) is a key residential position in the Hangzhou structure providing oversight of all aspects of Student Life and well-being for a House and reports directly to the Deputy Director.
