About Year 1-6 Admissions
From August 2017, every year-level from Year 1 through Year 6 will enroll up to 96 students.
For admission to the Primary school from Year 1 onwards, an age-appropriate command of English is usually necessary, but above all a child should demonstrate good overall language development and age-appropriate language skills.
When to Apply
Applications will be accepted up to one year before the desired date of entry, but not earlier. The application period is from September 1 to February 28, beginning one academic year prior to entry.
Please note that the number of places available for these years is extremely limited.

1 September 2019 to 28 February 2020
1. Online Application
Please complete an Online Application between September 1 and February 28 of the academic year preceding the desired year of entry. A non-refundable application fee of HK$2,000 should be paid by cheque at the time of application.
Spaces are very rare in Primary, since they open up only when a child leaves. Low single digit openings may be available in certain year groups.
Children who are applying with a Corporate Nomination Right, have siblings at CIS, or who have a parent who is an alumnus/a or a teacher of CIS have priority in the admissions process (however, possession of a CNR, or sibling, alumni or teacher status does not guarantee admission).
The school will review all submitted applications, but please note that the number of places available for the Primary years after Reception is extremely limited.
Note: the Online Application may be completed before or after attending an Information Session.
2. Information Session
Prospective parents who are interested in the Primary programme are strongly encouraged to attend an Information Session to learn more about CIS. The Information Session enables parents to gain a stronger understanding of CIS’ mission and culture and the application process, and materials may be distributed which are unavailable on this website. Information Sessions are generally conducted by the Head of Primary or other senior staff.
Information Session dates for a given academic year are typically posted in early/mid September. Sign-up is online.
Each information session for Primary lasts approximately one hour.
Note: Information Sessions in the current academic year are for applicants seeking entry in the following academic year. Applicants interested in admission in two years' time are advised to join an Information Session in the following academic year.
3. Entrance Assessment
The assessment normally takes place in small-group sessions held after school hours in May/ June (i.e., after existing students have confirmed their re-enrollment). The assessment involves written tests in English, Chinese and mathematics; and oral interviews in English and Mandarin if the applicant has prior background in the language.
Entrance Assessments take place on weekdays after school and usually last about 1-1/2 hours.
Admissions decisions will be announced in May/June.
Applicants to whom we have been unable to offer an Entrance Assessment may reapply for the following year at no additional cost by notifying the Admissions Office. In the absence of such notification, the Admissions Office will assume that the candidate does not wish to reapply.
View the main Admissions page for information about acceptances and re-applications.
