Students admitted to CIS between the academic year of 2012-13 through to the academic year of 2017-18 had the option of paying the Annual Levy or being nominated under a nomination right including a Personal Nomination Right or Corporate Nomination Right.
Option 1: Annual Levy - Non-Refundable
Students admitted between the academic year of 2012-13 through to the academic year of 2017-18 who opted to pay the Annual Levy were required to pay HK$17,500 per year.
Option 2: Personal Nomination Rights (PNRs) - Pro Rata
The PNR each costed HK$75,000 and was paid upon enrolment to CIS and therefore did NOT confer any priority in the application or admissions process. Each PNR was issued in the name of the parent/guardian of the student and was non-transferable.
Starting in the academic year of 2012-13, PNR of HK$75,000 each were required for attending the Primary School of CIS, and a separate PNR of HK$75,000 each was required for attending the Secondary School of CIS. Prior to the academic year of 2012-13, only one PNR was required for a child to complete his primary and secondary school education at CIS.
Personal Nomination Rights Redemption
For those students entering CIS from the academic year of 2012-13 to the academic year of 2017-18, the PNR may be redeemed and where such redemption is processed, the amount remaining on the PNR will be reimbursed on a pro rata basis. Corporate Nomination Rights (CNRs)
Students may enter CIS through a nomination under a Corporate Nomination Right (CNR). A CNR provides applicants top priority in the application process. Please note that at this time, there is currently NO new CNR being issued.
Individual Nomination Rights (INRs)
Students may enter CIS through a nomination under an Individual Nomination Right (INR). An INR provides applicants with top priority in the application process. Resource Allocation Overview
Over the past five school years, from 2020-21 through to 2024-25, the school has received funding through various types of charges, including Personal Nomination Rights (“PNR”), Corporate Nomination Rights (“CNR”), Annual Capital Levy and Annual Levy. These funds, categorised under “Other Charges” as approved by the Education Bureau (“EDB”), have been exclusively allocated to the Façade project on the school campus.
To summarise the financial details, the total projected cost for the Façade project is HK$167.46 million. During these five years, the school has obtained a projected accumulated HK$155.54 million from the aforementioned charges. All collected funds have been fully utilised for the Façade project, leaving no remaining balance. The shortfall of HK$11.92 million is to be funded directly from the school’s reserves. The Façade project was completed in February 2025, marking a significant achievement for the school Community.
Looking ahead, while no additional funds are expected for the Façade project since the funding target has been met, it is important to consider the broader financial context of the school. Given the redeemable nature of PNR and CNR, we project that funds from the repayment plan will be used for broader financial obligations, not specifically tied to the Façade project, which will total HK$17.3 million over the next 12 months.
Over the next five years, we anticipate that funding received from New Personal Nomination Rights, Annual Capital Levy, Old and New Annual Levy, and other charges approved by the Education Bureau will total around HK$640 million. This amount will be fully allocated, with no remaining balance, to essential projects (including the 9 Hau Yuen Path project, estimated at HK$1 billion and tentatively set for completion in July 2028). Additionally, these funds will support various ongoing long-term school development projects.
To address potential funding shortfalls, the school plans to use identified funding sources alongside its reserves and bank loans. Additionally, we will seek support from our generous community members. This will ensure the successful advancement of our strategic educational initiatives.
Please note that the figures presented above are unaudited projections.
New INRs are currently being offered by CIS. Contact cisinr@cis.edu.hk for details.
