Reception Applicants
Reception is our entry programme at Chinese International School for students who have reached the age of 4 by 31 August of the year for which they are seeking entry. Reception is a half-day programme and there are openings for 96 students. We accept applications up to two years in advance.
We seek children who are well-rounded and have reached age-appropriate milestones cognitively, linguistically, physically, socially and emotionally. Candidates should demonstrate independence and initiative and be able to concentrate and collaborate in a formal setting.
We expect our students to have a strong command of one of the following languages; English, Chinese (Mandarin), or Chinese (Cantonese). While many Reception applicants already speak two languages, doing so is not required. We accept students without a strong knowledge of English and students without a strong knowledge of Chinese (Mandarin) to the Reception programme.
At CIS, we seek to admit a balanced cohort of learners in terms of their language backgrounds, gender, age and other qualities. Successful candidates will demonstrate that they are a good fit for CIS through their application and an observation session. Parents must also understand, appreciate and agree to uphold our school's Mission. CIS very much values the parent-school partnership.

The school will review all submitted applications and parent questionnaires. Using this information, a number of students will be selected for Stage 2 of our admissions process which includes observation sessions.
Note: children who are applying with a Corporate Nomination Right, have siblings at CIS, or who have a parent who is an alumnus/a of or a staff member at CIS receive priority consideration in the admissions process and will be automatically invited to take part in the second stage of the admissions process.
