find the exisiting village homes/buildings interesting?

A) building materials
B) building style
C) building layout
D) Other

Question 8
Why do you feel that the current conditions of the village homes is unacceptable?

Open question answers:
- loss of history
- They are in a very dangerous condition.
- Because no one is taking care of it.
- Because it is run down
- They've been left in a state of disrepair. Normal wear and tear from being left in present state will result inevitably in eventual total loss of the heritage.
- there seems to be no concerted/coordinated overall approach to preservation/conservation on the island.
- lack of any visible signs of maintenance and/or repair.
- historic artifacts are rapidly deteriorating.
- I would hate to see the homes get more dilapidated.
- most of them are either already crumbled to almost nothing, or do not have all four walls and a roof.
- Basic necessities of water and electricity does not exist; I also wonder about sewage and drainage too.
- Preservation of historically relevant features should be better. Too much trash for a location with relatively light foot traffic.
- it is part of our history and no one is caring about it.
- because they were old and the walls weren't intact therefore making easier to collapse
- The villages are deserted and are nearly all of them are in a really bad condition. Except for a small amount of houses which are currently used.
- the walls were falling and they were inaccessible
- the walls are falling down
- Most of the houses are rotting away and slowly turning into ruins. If no actions are taken they will soon become nothing but a pile of rocks, which also means the disappearance of TPC's cultural heritage.
- because you can't live in them also ants might come in the house in the middle of the night and eat you.
- Most of the homes were abandoned and the government did not preserve it properly. A lot of them collapse but only some were well conditioned.
- TPC is part of Hong Kong heritage, but it is basically falling apart. They should be restored to their former glory.
- It is not preserved properly, so the government should do something.
- Why are you assuming that I feel that the conditions of the village homes are unacceptable or acceptable? What if I am neutral on this topic?
- I feel this because most of the homes within the village are falling apart. They are a safety concern.
- Because Tung Ping Chaus homes are old, and hold some old Chinese heritage, so they need to be kept preserved!
- Because most of them have broke down....
- I don't.
- more than half of the houses/buildings are in ruins- although it is very interesting to look at (it looks like a walk-through exhibition).
- most of them are old and looks like they are almost falling apart.
- Because some are already collasped while others are starting to follow.
- Because they look as if they are on the verge of collapsing. Some are also already ruined.
- Most of the houses are not usable anymore and are falling apart. Some are already ruined.
- For a heritage village, the way of which it has been taken care is not exactly well.
- It looks like its on the verge of breaking apart
- The houses look very rundown.
- Many are disappearing. Some are being renovated in an inappropriate manner.
- Worn down, old.
- It is very messed up by nature and some have even been restored untraditionally!
- Lack of maintenence.
- The buildings are poorly kept as most of them are completely inaccessible. Nature has overtook most of the buildings.
- run down
- poor condition
- I feel that it is unacceptable because some houses do not provide sufficient shelter, therefore lowering the survival rate.
- because there have been almost no attempts at maintaining or repairing the existing buildings which are a vital part of Tung Ping Chau's cultural heritage.
- Most of the houses were damaged by nature badly.
- because the accomadation is horrendous
- They are mostly abandoned, dirty and in condition 2. Apart from the canteen in Tai Tong.
- A lot of cultural heritage is slipping away.
- their too shabby
- Because most of the houses are inaccessible, with only a few houses in excellent condition. Most of the houses had missing roofs and walls, with only a few piles of bricks for the remains.
- The houses are very run-down. The buildings are destroyed and are unhospitable. for example, they have no roofs, windows or even walls.
- because most of the village homes are in very poor conditions
- Because the houses in the villages that i visited to are in ruins. Their is no cultural heritage present in Chau Mei.
- Unpreserved.
- nearly all of them are all falling apart, when compared to previous generations, and trees have grown into them
- They are all run down and in bad condition.
- each day, the heritage found in the walls of the buildings are being lost to nature
