**The Street Markets of Wan Chai are under threat from the pressure**
**of Urban Re-development. The Year 10 Geography students, as**
**part of their unit on the Geography of Food, visited**
**the streets to get a sense of what the pressures are and, what**
**these types of markets mean to us as a community.**
**Below are pictures of the Wan Chai street market - all of it's**

**Changing Streetscapes**
Lots of food choices to see on the street.	The Zenith Residential Development in the heart of the market area - putting pressure on the independent stalls, due to it's need for wide streets for the flat owners who have private cars.
Busy streets make it a lively place.	Chain store shops are creeping into the neighborhood.
Colours which jump out at you.	Lunch time crowds coming from the high-rise offices in the neighbourhood.
Cat fish which jump out at you!	Catching a few winks between sales.
Increasingly, this is the type of traffic you see - large building cranes moving in to either take a building down or build a new one in it's place.	An estate agent showing prospective flat buyers around the Zenith neighbourhood - what's their opinion of the markets?
Here's one such "new" development - I wonder, will these elder residents of the neighborhood be able to afford the new "Garden Living Residence?"	Change is evident on every corner.

This "old gal" is still hanging on, even though the new high-rises are hemming her in!	The Wan Chai market - hanging in there - it's future is still undetermined.
Colourful, fresh and attractive.	This is how the developers see the future of the neighbourhood. Hurry up and check it out before is all disappears....
