A short Power Point history of GIS in Chinese International School - click

Below are lessons which have been developed at the Chinese International School, Humanities Department, which incorporates the use of GIS.  They have mainly been developed for use in the Year 7 - 13 Geography courses (grades 6 to 12), for a wide range of topics found within the program.  As our school has moved towards the IB Middle Years Program (MYP), many of the lessons have assessment rubrics included based on the MYP model.  Some the lessons are developed with the Aim of teaching specific GIS skills or specific spatial knowledge or a combination of both.

Arcview is the software platform which all of the lesson are based on, and most do include the data for the actual mapping.  Some lessons do not include the data, for copy write purposes - but are provided as a basis for "ideas" when developing your own tailored made lessons.  Some of our lessons are based on lessons which we have found on the internet or were shared with us.

Some of the lessons are dated, as we move forward with our GIS program.  As well, some lessons may have glitches, we apologize for them in advance.

If you do use our lessons, please acknowledge the following: Humanities Department, Chinese International School, HK.

We welcome your feedback relating to our own lessons or on other matters related to GIS and geography.
