Exploring the region by Bicycle

Heading out after lunch at  Weng Wo Li Village

The main focus of our Project Week trip was bicycling in and around Tai Shan County, which is situated on the
western side of the Pearl River delta, Guangdong Province, China.  We had three days of riding.  Day one was a familiarization
ride for the students, approximately 25 km, where the students got use to their bicycles and riding within busy Chinese streets.  It
also gave the trip leaders a chance to assess the student's abilities within the authentic riding environment.  Day 2, we had a 50 km ride with
the main destination to the village of Zilii, next to Kaiping.  This village is now protected as a "World Heritage" location by UNESCO due to it's
unique "tower" architecture. After visiting the village and stopping for lunch next to the Chikan Film Studio, we altered our route due to weather.
We rode for about 3 1/2 hours in the rain, but we discovered some a new routes back to the city of Tai Shan.  Day 3 of riding went south from Tai Shan
city toward the port city of Guang Hai, about 50 km.  On our ride south we were fortunate to have visited the village of Weng wo Li where we were enjoyed
a delicious Tai Shan meal, courteous of the villagers.
