Introduction:
This is five-day Delta project will incorporate the MYP Areas of Interaction and eight disciplines. Coordinated by both the Humanities department and Head of Year 9, the trip will be multi faceted. The first day, ‘Classroom on the Harbour’ will be located on a chartered ship, examining a variety features of Hong Kong’s single most important asset, Victoria Harbour. A range of learning activities will be organized to aid the students’ understanding and appreciation of the harbour’s historical and contemporary significance. The following 4 days will see the group heading toward and up the mouth of the Pearl River, to explore its environs. Here, the time will be divided between Panyu and Guangzhou and the trip will include visits to two types of factories and an investigation of Shamian Island, the historical European trading port. The focus will be on exploring and understanding the physical, social, cultural and economic factors that at present are holding back Hong Kong and Guangdong from becoming an integrated region. Within this context, the students will consider their own role, looking at the statement: “What is my place in the Pearl River Delta?”
