No Idling Engine Zone

Campaign

A small group of Year 10 students decided to research and develop a plan to reduce the number of cars which sit idling around our
school on Braemar Hill.  The project manager, Chris Chan, and the team of 8 other students collected data on the scale
of the problem before proceeding.  Once a baseline was established, 31% of the cars sit idling at any given time, a campaign
was devised, where drivers of idling engines would be asked to switch their engines off and if they complied, were given a
bottle of water and a tiny  message on a tiny piece of paper of the benefits.  Next week, the final week of the school year,
data will be collected to determine the effectiveness of this campaign in trying to establish the first Hong Kong voluntary
No Idling Zone.  Below are pictures and data form the campaign.
Thanks to everyone for your support.

Six Good Reasons For Turning Your Engine Off

1.  Idling engines contribute to Global Warming through excessive burning of fossil fuels.
2.  Idling engines contribute to poor local air quality, thus harming people抯 respiratory systems  and ruining Hong Kong抯 image as Asia抯 World City.
3.  Idling engines generate extra heat and noise into our local community, thus necessitating the local schools and residences to close their windows and use air conditioners, thus consuming more electricity.
4.  It抯 a waste of your money.
5.  It wastes a non-renewable resource needlessly, oil.
6.  It抯 a poor example for a knowledgeable community, such as CIS, to be setting for our fellow citizens.
